Math software grades 6-8
The curriculum is available in both print and digital versions. EdReports is an independent nonprofit that reviews K—12 instructional materials for focus, coherence, and rigor. As each unit progresses, students are systematically introduced to representations, contexts, concepts, language, and notation. As their learning progresses, they make connections between different representations and strategies, consolidating their conceptual understanding, and see and understand more efficient methods of solving problems, supporting the shift toward procedural fluency.
The distributed practice problems give students ongoing practice, which also supports developing procedural proficiency. Students have opportunities to make connections to real-world contexts throughout the materials. Carefully chosen anchor contexts are used to motivate new mathematical concepts, and students have many opportunities to make connections between contexts and the concepts they are learning.
IM 6—8 Math Accelerated, a compressed version of IM 6—8 Math, is a thoughtful alternative to conventional accelerated programs because its design eliminates the possibility for unfinished learning as students arrive at Algebra 1.
It includes all of the standards in IM 6—8 Math and compacts them into a two-year curriculum meant to be covered during grades 6 and 7.
The pace is faster than IM 6—8 Math, but no crucial mathematical concepts are left-out. IM Professional Learning for mathematics is deeply integrated with the curriculum. The program provides teachers and leaders long-term, sustainable support for developing, refining, and reflecting on instructional practices. IM Certified Partners share our commitment to providing the IM Certified Curriculum to all teachers and students as it is meant to be experienced, in the format they need to ensure success.

Our curricula are designed by respected thought leaders who share IM's goal to create a world where learners know, use, and enjoy mathematics. Bill McCallum has dedicated his life to helping teachers, educators, mathematicians, and policymakers show fidelity to both mathematical coherence and student learning.
He is an Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at The University of Arizona, where he researches number theory and arithmetical algebraic geometry, authors textbooks, and advises researchers and policymakers. You should be allocating about an hour each day to practice math. To get ahead, you should start to use supplementary materials.
If you want to be one of the best in the country, you should start no later than sixth grade. I recommend using AOPS books, starting with the introductory level books for each topic:. Those are each linked to the official AOPS website, where you can buy the books.
In 6th grade, I placed third in my chapter of MathCounts, and in 7th grade, I placed first. Use those competitions; they will really help you. Of course, things will start to change once you get to high school. Always do your best to learn in an intuitive way, rather than just memorizing formulas. Summer Programs! As I mentioned before, during your middle school years you should think about attending intensive mathematics summer programs.
The earlier you decide which programs you want to apply to, the easier it will be to get in. Always try to apply for the early deadline. It will not only increase your chances of admittance, but it may also give you another chance to apply in another round of admissions, like for AwesomeMath.
There are a lot of summer programs available for middle school students. Of course, during middle school you should have lots of fun during the summer, but summer math programs actually have proven to be pretty fun themselves! I have been to multiple mathematics camps. In other words, the more effort you put into learning, the more rewarding your experience will be. You will no doubt be meeting students from all over the world, looking to hone their math skills with other like-minded peers.
At AwesomeMath, I met some amazing people. For example, I met someone from Albania, who won honorable mention at the International Math Olympiad. Prodigy also features powerful and immediate reporting tools for both teachers and parents. I have seen many students improve their understanding of math concepts after reviewing the skills on Prodigy.
My students who have the privilege of being able to access Prodigy at home show even more growth. Susan Phillips 2nd grade teacher Miamisburg City Schools. Log in or sign up for your free Parent or Teacher account here! Though created in the U. Common Core Standards. A California-based non-profit organization, the goal of CK is to increase access to free and customizable open educational resources. When a student signs up, they will gain access to a variety of free lessons in STEM subjects.
Instead of sifting through traditional hardcopy textbooks, CK breaks them down into easy-to-digest concepts in forms such as:. From practice exercises to instructional videos created by math content specialists, adaptive technology helps identify strengths and learning gaps.
On this adventure, your child will travel through time and meet famous mathematicians, help them regain their lost knowledge, and transform Mathlantis back to its original state. Available from 3rd to 8th grade, the activities in Buzzmath are aligned with the common core and TEKS curricula. Complete math missions to build your own rockets and launch them into space!
